Eleanor, I was in the store today (Thurs.) when my husband called and told me he
had run out of gas down at the river behind our house as he was getting ready to
come home from a day of fishing.
He
asked me to come bring him some gas...soooooooooooo I left after a "shortened"
demo. I was about a mile or two from your place when he called me and said,
"Never mind!" He had called our neighbor (whose house he could see across the
cove from where he was standing) who said he would bring him some gas. It would
take him about 2 or 3 minutes to get there! I was so relieved since I was 15 or
20 miles away from our house...in Powdersville! (I live in Belton.)
Now
I ask you....will a husband do
anything
to get his wife out of the stamp store???? Oh, well....I got my "goodies"
anyway! Jean

Can
I put my name in for the Stamping 101 class if it is not full (will be very
surprised if it's not)? Should I call on Monday? Oh, fooey! I'll call anyway!
I really am enjoying your website...love the "PSSST" section! I have also
enjoyed coming by and seeing the demos! I am spending too much money though!!!
Gotta' stop this!
I knew I was in trouble when I saw that sign up on the front of the store!
Love ya'll!

Just thought I would
email you and tell you my story. As you know, I try to stop by the store on
Friday afternoons as we close the clinic at 1 PM. Last week, Greg asked me if I
was going to “Mecca” on my way home. He loves to tease me about my crafts but
he enjoys shopping in your store as much as I. In fact, I like for him to come
along as we can usually “double” my purchases. Continued success to you and
your terrific staff!

I might have something for you to add to your stories section. I am the lady who
spoke to Rita (I think? ) on Saturday. You see I had prevailed upon my husband
to give up a Saturday morning and drive me to the Grand Reopening. I didn't want
to miss any of the fun and besides I wanted to pick out my birthday gift. I had
been having some health problems and at 3:00 in the a.m. my sweet husband had to
take me to the Emergency Room because I couldn't breath and was having chest
pains. We were there eight hours. So here I am on a gurney in the hospital going
through serious tests and barely able to breathe and I look over at my husband
and say,
" If this isn't too serious, would you still take me to Eleanor's tomorrow?
That's when I knew for sure I was a stamp addict. I'm hopeless.

Here is a story from when I had the store up at Aunt Sue's......
I remember a customer who called me and asked if I had some particular stamp in
stock and I said, "Yes, I sure do!". She said, "OK, here's the deal...Figure
out how much I owe you and then put change for a $20.00 bill in a bag with the
stamp and when I get there I will stick my arm in the door and give you a $20.00
bill ...I am not going to peek in.....just hand me the bag...and please don't
say a word!" SO, I DID exactly what she said...but about that time two women
started to go out the door talking excitedly about what they had just bought and
she heard them and waited for them to leave and then just barged right on in and
looked around and shopped anyway!"

One day we noticed that a car pulled into the parking lot on Hwy 153 with
JUST MARRIED written all over it. A couple from Asheville had just
gotten married and the new bride talked him into "rushing to get to our store
before it closed" on a Saturday so she could shop a little on their way to the
beach for their honeymoon.
One former
employee confessed to us....
"I used to stamp in my bedroom and now ......
I SLEEP in my
stamproom!"
Some
of you may remember when my first grand baby was born. Her mother, Carree,
worked here during her whole pregnancy and Sydney was brought by the store on her way home
from the hospital and we have the pictures to prove
it. So stamping is definitely in her blood. In fact she stayed in the
office for the first several months of her life. We even had her greeting
customers when the came in with a smile while she was in her bouncy seat!
Well, my sweet and creative granddaughter Sydney has been coming to my house
while I was "retired" for some quality time with me, AKA "Granelle" and we
had some fun cardmaking sessions. Her 4 year old cardmaking skills included
stickers, punches, glitter glue and crayons.
Well, one day about 4 months before I got the shop back she wanted to go to
my hobby room and make some cards and so we did. She proceeded to make her
original creations and I needed to make a special card for a friend that
day.
While she was busy making her cards, I tore and arranged and glued some
mulberry paper on the front of a two fold accordion card. Then I used some
Liquid Pearls to do a little "artsy swirl" on the mulberry paper. I
finished it off with a little calligraphy personalized verse to finish it
off while she was doing her "own creative thing!"
A few days later she came back and asked , "Granelle, can I go upstairs and
make some cards?" Of course I said yes! A little while later she came down
and proudly showed me a piece of paper folded in a unique (4 year old)
design with the SAME color mulberry paper torn and glued with some Liquid
Pearls on it, swirled in a very impressive 4 year old artsy way.
I think that was the first time that I had ever had that "little twinge
inside that wished that I had the store back"...because for one second I
proudly thought that, "Gee if I still had the store she would definitely be
the youngest DEMO ARTIST on staff!"
Well, folks since things turned out the way that they have, I can only
say....."Be careful what you wish for! "
As a follow up... Sydney came in during the first week we were at the store
and since we were all very busy ... with customers and organizing things...
I parked her up on a stool at the demo counter. I gave her a wonderful
array of stamps, pads, markers and paper. She was content and stamping away
while I was helping some people and then I had to go up front to the
register to total an order for a customer.
When Sydney had a clear view of me down the aisle at the register from her
perch on the high stool, she smiled and said...."Granelle, I love you!" And
I jokingly asked her, " Sydney are you saying that just because I have ALL
of these rubber stamps now?" She quickly shook her head and said quickly
and adamantly with a serious look...."No, Granelle I REALLY LOVE YOU! "
And just then, the lady that I was checking out ...said quickly and
spontaneously "Eleanor, I'd, love you for all these rubber stamps!"
This customer and friend, went on line and told all of her stamping cyber
friends that she was driving in front of my shop when she happened to notice
the sign that we were back and her son was in the car too, when she slammed on
the brakes and he said...what happened and she screamed with joy that "Eleanor's
back!! " It was early morning and she was on her way somewhere and she came
back in later on and shared the story with us.
This is about another lady and she knows who she is . We are on her way home
from work. She has to pass us every single day....she came in several times the
first two weeks we were back in business. Then one day she came in and
confessed that when she was two miles away and still on I-85 she started saying
..."I'm not gonna stop...I'm not gonna stop......I'm not gonna stop"....and then
she stopped................and told us about it!
Another woman came in and said, " I was at the red light and I saw your sign
and whipped the car to the right so fast that my mother was still in the car
recovering from whiplash! "
Overheard from a lady who entered the store on one of the first few days we were
back and let out a really long sigh...
" Whew.... I nearly got hit by a car...." I asked her what happened and she
said" I was driving by and saw the sign that you were back and did a U-turn and
....almost got hit .......sigh.......... I am so glad you are back."
Email me and
"fess up"...with your anonymous store
stories....
